New to your blog, but loved the post. I mostly play solo personally, and wanted to suggest Across a Thousand Dead Worlds - Black Oath Entertainment. While it may not be related directly to the topic of your games, the system it uses is quite extensive and useful. It certainly warrants a view. It also contains a rather useful GM emulator. Man Alone on youtube is doing some play throughs and covering a lot topics.

Looking forward to more!

You might want to take a look at games that have more "board game-like" mechanics. The described game loops are mainly "limited" to the interaction of the oracles and the core system (attribute rolls etc.). Games such as "Fobidden Lands" introduce other systems that are part of the gameloop. Such as quite detailed rules for Hexcrawl and Survival, which make the gameloop stand out beyond this oracle <-> attribute roll interaction.

Thanks for your comment.

I did look at some more board-game like games, for example Glide, which a very nice hex discovery game loop, but as my main focus was learning enough to add solo procedures to my own game (which is more of a mystery game), it felt a bit out of scope for this article.

Forbidden Lands does sound interesting though, so I'll be sure to check it out!

Nice! This is really valuable, surveying the range of approaches for solo play. Looking forward to the next part.

Thanks!

It's really fascinating, I've been spending more time on it then intended, but sometimes I just get lost in a rabbit hole...
