Monstermind #14: November braindump
News about Hiria, Pine Shallows and some other cool stuff
Hi all,
An update from the Monstermind Game Laboratory!
Hiria: the Eternal City
You might have seen the Kickstarter update: the zines are at the UK fulfilment partner. They will also send zines to Floating Chair Club who will handle US & Canada fulfilment.
Peregrine had some personnel changes resulting in delays. I am in communication with them, and I'm hope fulfilment will start very soon. They will also have the zines in their own webshop, and will sent copies to some shops in the US, so for people who didn't back the zine, it will be available in a while too.
I can't wait for you to get your hands on the zines! Hold tight for a bit, the zines are coming your way. I will keep you posted!
For people who've already played the digital version (which can be found here on itch.io: jimmyshelter.itch.io/hiria), please leave a rating & review on Itch.io – it helps!
I'd love to hear about your experiences.
The Pine Shallows Guide to Adventure
This was a planned part of the Pine Shallows Halloween Bonanza, but real life threw me some delays, so here it finally is. The soapbox downhill race mini game/adventure is still in the works, expect that in the coming weeks!
Pine Shallows is a strange little town, but even stranger is the short memory of most of the adults. Every season seems to have its own share of weird events popping up. Need a bit more weirdness to add to your Pine Shallows campaign?
Check the Pine Shallows Guide to Adventure! Pick one of the presented hooks, and start leaving hints to your players, and see what they’ll turn up! Or, if nothing strikes your fancy, roll up a completely random adventure.
The Pine Shallows Guide to Adventure contains 15 pages filled with hooks and random tables and is available for all owners of Pine Shallows.
Hope you’ll like it!
The Unease
Recently I got a cool book in the mail. They contain the completed short stories of a Dutch writer, but very nice genre stories (Kafka-esk, magical realism, I guess). The Dutch title, Het Ongemak translates to The Unease. The book is from 1960, published posthumously, Piet Apol died in 1956, and is now long forgotten by most people.
This book was found by a fellow Dutch writer in a little free library, and now the book is going the rounds from writer to writer, in the hopes of inspiring enough of us to create a new bundle of stories inspired by this long forgotten writer.
I've been reading it, and it's pretty great weird stuff. Even though it's from the 50s it doesn't feel outdated.
I love projects like this! Would be cool to do a similar thing for an old ttrpg sometime...
Cool stuff I found
Andrew Lavers is a filmmaker and artist from Cornwall in the UK. This year he created a series of videos: In case of a creative emergency. Each episode focuses on an activity to combat creative block. Highly recommended. This was one of my favorite episodes:
That concludes this weird grab bag of an newsletter. See you next time!
