It’s been a while, very busy with vacation and then diving back into finalizing Pine Shallows texts & layout. (Check the Kickstarter update for more details).
I wanted to hop in to point you towards a crowdfunding campaign I’d love to get more attention.
Frog and Toad
The Frog and Toad books by Arnold Lobel are some of my favorite books. I loved them as a kid, and I’ve been reading them to both my kids. Cozy, philosophical. Tales of real friendship.
The relationship between Frog and Toad is so warm and genuine, even though they’re quite different. I will always return to them.
A Week with Frog and Rabbit
This is why I am so enthusiastic about A Week with Frog and Rabbit by Côme Martin. This game just hits the vibes so well. Frog and Rabbit are a duo of friends very similar to the original Toad & Frog, but Côme gave them their own character.
I’ll be honest: While the game is a bit too freeform for my tastes (I think I’d might introduce some of the specific mechanics from Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast for the different stories), the themes, art & writing is immaculate. The original books of Frog and Toad are all focussed on a specific season, and by introducing the game as playing out in a week, it perfectly fits.
During the week Frog and Rabbit have some simple cozy activities like fishing, go for a walk, visit a sick friend and drink some tea.
Frog and Rabbit also have scary adventures like a flood hitting their town and maybe worse, even have a fight. In some of the Frog and Toad books they tell each other stories, and on the end of the week that’s what Frog and Rabbit will do. What stories will your Frog and Rabbit tell each other?
While it’s currently crowdfunding for a print release, you can already get your hands on the digital version on itch (in both French and English).
